1. Thoughtful Sourcing

Pocket Garden intends to source botanical varieties exclusively from regional growers who acclimate plants to high-desert weather cycles. We prioritize native low-water succulents, structural cacti, and hardy culinary herbs to ensure long-term survivability in Northern Nevada homes.

2. Plant Care

We prepare our plants with organic neem extracts, horticultural sand blends, and coarse gravel drainage mixes instead of relying on industrial chemical feeds. By avoiding synthetic pesticides, we aim to prevent environmental toxins from entering local Nevada water systems.

3. Reduced Waste

By operating on a rules-based reservation queue, we hand-pot specimens only when order inquiries are approved. This limits inventory surpluses, prevents botanical waste, and eliminates the mass disposal of unpotted rootstocks typical in traditional big-box garden centers.

4. Reusable & Recyclable Packaging

Our packaging utilizes natural jute fibers, cotton ties, and recyclable cardboard boxes. We intend to establish a local return program for our custom wood boxes and plastic nursery growers pots, allowing Sparks customers to drop them off during pickups so they can be sterilized and reused.

5. Responsible Local Operations

We optimize our local Sparks and Reno delivery routes on Tuesdays and Thursdays to minimize fuel consumption. We are currently researching the integration of solar panels to run greenhouse ventilation fans at our Sparks nursery location.

6. Future Sustainability Goals

Our target for 2027 is to transition 100% of our peat moss soil bases to renewable coconut coir components and establish partnerships with local Washoe County organic compost centers.
